Swimming Pools

Sport Center | Aalst (Be)

This new climate-friendly swimming pool in the city of Aalst (Belgium) has been under construction since 2019 and will have limited CO2 emissions due to a number of measures.

Swimming Pools

Heat will be extracted from the wastewater, ultra-filtration will be used for the bath water, and highly energy-efficient air treatment for the ventilation air. Everything will be located in an extra insulated building envelope, which will certainly contribute to the aim of opening a BEN (Almost Energy Neutral) building.

8 Air Handling Units

The 8 air handling units are all supply/exhaust units with heat recovery. The air volumes vary from 2 x 6,650 m³/h to 2 x 48,500 m³/h. The swimming pool units are equipped with an epoxy-coated cross-flow heat exchanger (efficiency of almost 80%) with an epoxy cast floor. The residual heat from the exhaust air is returned to the system by a water-supplied evaporator (cooler) and a heat pump. This means hardly any energy is lost.
